THE WHY

MentorMeet exists because lawyers are not just the sum of their technical legal skills … and in-house lawyers are not defined simply by their job descriptions.

 

In-house lawyers are facing constant pressures as cost centres in the era of cost cutting and of needing to prove one’s value to one’s organisation. Lawyers bring more to the table than their risk management skills, their ability to draft and review contracts and their analytical skills when identifying the effect of new or changing regulation.

 

Sometimes under-invested and under-resourced, in-house legal teams are rarely given the opportunity to explore the further value they can bring to their business. This is where MentorMeet steps in! Because we believe in lawyers as business leaders, we believe in opening more doors and above all we believe in the potential of the in-house legal community to … BE MORE!

 

In a nutshell … why do we do what we do? BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IN YOU!

HOW DO WE TURN THIS INTO RESULTS?

It all starts with planting a seed.

 

MentorMeet is a means to an end not a panacea.

 

Through experiential training and mentoring, MentorMeet will take each and every participant on a personal journey. A journey that will provide different perspectives and investment in your personal development which will in turn benefit you as a professional. Mentoring, together with soft skills training will give you an insight into yourself and into aptitudes you may not even know you had. Some of you will have dabbled in soft skills training, some of you may not. We believe that all of you will benefit from participation in the programme.

WHAT IS MENTORMEET?

So what is MentorMeet exactly and what exactly is going to happen?

 

Each January MentorMeet will be opening a matching window (a period of time where we will invite you to sign up for and participate in our programme).

 

Your journey starts on this very website. You will register and fill in a questionnaire which will allow us to match you with a suitable Mentor or Mentee based on a set of criteria we have established with our coaching partner.

 

Once you have registered and filled in the questionnaire, sit back and relax and let our matching programme and coaching partner get to work.

 

We will be in touch in February for two reasons:

 

  1. To invite you to a Mentor / Mentee training session where we will explain to you how mentoring works, what we (and your Mentor / Mentee) will expect of you and how to make the most of that mentoring relationship. We’ll throw in an opportunity for you to mix with your peers and a few drinks and nibbles while we’re at it too!

  2. To inform you of your mentoring match … that individual with whom you will undertake your mentorship journey for the rest of the year! We will introduce the two of you (electronically) and start you off on your experience.

 

We will, of course, keep in touch with you regularly. But once a quarter you will be extra excited to hear from us as we will be inviting you to our quarterly soft skills training sessions. An interactive training experience with our coaching partners that is intended to amplify your mentorship journey with new skills, helping you amplify the value you add to your organisation and focus your mind on all the extra things that you bring to the table other than your lawyering skills.
